Land resources are considered one of the most valuable assets in a country. This has been brought to the limelight recently with reports of "land grabbing" and decreased food production. The ever increasing pressure on land is putting is putting demands on Sustainable management of land resources, such as soil and water conservation. Climate change is also affecting available resources through increased frequency of extreme weather events, droughts, floods, etc, leading to increased land degradation. This in turn affects food security and the potential for income generation.
Ramboll´s approach to land management is holistic and participatory. A comprehensive perspective which include environmental, social and economic aspects, is needed when working with land management and planning.
Comprehensive Land use planning is needed to deal with land pressure and land degradation. It needs to take as a starting point the current use of land and forecast future needs based on public consultation and strategic directions. Public participation needs to be strong in both in order to increase the public awareness and to establish a way forward that is accepted and agreed with regards to land use.
