Forests play a fundamental role in global and local environmental processes; soil, water, climate and biological diversity are all influenced by how we treat our forests.
Forests are also crucial for subsistence among rural populations and a great majority of the world’s poorest people depend directly on forests for their livelihoods. At the same time forests represent one of the few renewable resources available for human and industrial use, and as such they hold potential to generate long-term income and employment.
The great challenge in forestry is to establish a sound balance between the environmental, subsistence and productive use of resources, taking into account both human needs and the forest ecosystem.
Ramboll´s approach to sound forestry is based on sustainable management principles. We aim to meet the economic, ecological, social and cultural needs of present and future generations. This means that to achieve sustainable forest management social, technical and biological know-how has to be combined with institutional, organisational and capacity development.
